ABSU Vice-Chancellor Approves Sweeping Director Appointments for 2025/2026 Academic Session, Repositions University for Stronger Governance and Academic Excellence
Abia State University (ABSU) has announced a comprehensive round of strategic appointments into key directorate positions for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a significant step toward strengthening academic planning, administration, research coordination, and service delivery across the institution.
The appointments were approved by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, following due consideration and in line with the university’s drive for efficiency, accountability, and institutional growth.
According to an official memo dated January 20, 2026, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, the newly appointed Directors are expected to provide leadership and oversight across critical academic, research, entrepreneurial, ethical, and support units of the university.
The appointees include Dr. Felix Ike, Prof. Uzoma Nwokochah, Prof. I. C. Nnorom, Prof. Ebere Ugwueje, Prof. (Mrs.) C. I. Nwahunanya, Prof. A. C. Akpanta, Dr. (Mrs.) Nkeiruka Ogbuokiri, Dr. Chidi Mba, Prof. Sunday Eze, Dr. Peter Uruakpa, Prof. Levi K. Nwokocha, Dr. C. P. Nwadinobi, Prof. G. A. N. Ama, Prof. Amadike Ugbogu, Prof. N. O. Dibia, Prof. M. O. Unegbu, Prof. N. C. Nwaeze, Dr. Onwukwe Ijioma, Dr. Chidi E. Osuagwu, Prof. F. E. Eboh, Dr. Michael Nwoko, and Dr. (Mrs.) Ijeoma Amaugo.
These academics will head a wide range of directorates and centres, including Academic Planning, the Business Resource Centre for Entrepreneurship, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council Desk, the Centre for Quality Assurance and Ethics, the Centre for Primary and Non-Formal Education, the Centre for Remedial Studies and JUPEB, the Guidance and Counselling Centre, Community Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility, Admissions, Lawns, Parks and Gardens, and the Division of General Studies.
Other critical units covered by the appointments include the Institute for Information and Communication Services, the Institute for Continuing Education, Research and Publications with TETFund Desk responsibilities, the Students’ Work Programme, Law and Justice, Linkages, SIWES, the Centre for Igbo Studies, the University Examinations Centre, the Uke Kalu Centre for Christianity and African Culture, and the Centre for Population Studies.
University management stated that the appointments take immediate effect, underscoring the urgency of repositioning the institution ahead of the new academic session.
Observers within the university community describe the move as a deliberate effort by the Vice-Chancellor-led administration to consolidate reforms, deepen academic standards, promote research productivity, and enhance students’ academic and welfare experiences.
The university has congratulated all appointees and expressed confidence in their capacity to justify the trust reposed in them through dedicated service and impactful leadership in their respective offices.
