Elon Musk Unveils Grokipedia, A Bold AI-Powered Rival to Wikipedia Promising “The Whole Truth”

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has officially launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia positioned as a direct challenger to Wikipedia, which Musk has repeatedly accused of harbouring political bias.

The platform, branded Grokipedia Version 0.1, went live on Monday, featuring over 885,000 articles, a modest figure compared to Wikipedia’s seven million English-language entries, yet substantial enough to spark global attention and debate.

Musk has already described the upcoming Version 1.0 as “10X better,” asserting that the new site is designed to surpass its established rival in both accuracy and transparency.

According to Musk, the primary goal of Grokipedia.com and its integrated AI assistant Grok is to deliver truthful, bias-free information. The billionaire entrepreneur explained that the project’s initial release was postponed from September to allow developers to “purge out the propaganda” and ensure the site’s content aligns strictly with verified facts.

Musk, who has long criticised Wikipedia for being “controlled by far-left activists,” claims that Grokipedia will offer an AI-driven knowledge platform built around factual accuracy, objectivity, and open-source verification.

A sample Grokipedia entry on Musk himself highlights his influence on technological innovation, demographic trends, and institutional reform, while also referencing what it calls “systemic left-leaning tilts” in traditional media coverage.

By contrast, Wikipedia, launched in 2001 and maintained by volunteer editors worldwide, operates under a “neutral point of view” policy and relies largely on public donations to sustain its operations.

In a related development, the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) the non-profit body overseeing Wikipedia has reported an 8% year-on-year decline in human pageviews across the platform.

The foundation attributed this drop to the emergence of generative AI tools and changing search behaviors, as many users now receive summarized information directly from AI systems and search engines, bypassing traditional website visits.

Marshall Miller, Wikimedia’s Senior Director of Product, stated that the trend reflects a fundamental shift in how users access and consume information online, with many AI-generated answers now quoting or paraphrasing Wikipedia content without attribution or referral links.

Additionally, the decline followed technical adjustments to WMF’s bot detection system, which corrected earlier misclassifications that had inflated previous human traffic figures.

With Grokipedia’s entry into the digital knowledge space, Elon Musk appears determined to redefine how information is created, curated, and consumed in an age dominated by artificial intelligence.

As the debate over bias, transparency, and truth intensifies, observers see Musk’s latest project as both a technological experiment and an ideological statement challenging Wikipedia’s long-held dominance in the globa l information ecosystem.
