The ongoing registration online by the Correctional service, immigration, fire service and civil defence board has been described as a step in the right direction by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inorder to address the high rate of unemployment in the country.

This was disclosed by comrade Salihu Dantata Mahmud a former personal assistant on media to former interior minister. Salihu also a security analyst however advocated for allocation of more slots to the immigration service, one of the service agencies presently recruiting inorder to meet up border challenges.

Salibu said, When we look at some recent steps taken by the controller general of immigration(CGI)Mrs Kemi Nandap you would see that the NIS requires enough manpower to tackle the influx of illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries through land and waterways which needed to be tackled. Recently, the CG organised interactive workshop which saw other relevant security agencies attending in Lagos where they discussed on how to mann our maritime waters against illegal immigration.

This present recruitment exercise is timely but I want to appeal to the interior minister as well as the board to seek for approval for expansion of limited numbers for the NIS going by it demanding task. The immigration service is so large with bigger than responsibilities that requires adequate manpower. The Armed squad that bears arm must be expanded inorder to meet up border challenges. There is also the immigration women squad that also exists.

An expansion and increase in numbers of candidates will go a long way. The Senate and house of representatives committees on interior should also support this call in the interest of the country., he said as former Aide of one of the past interior ministers.
