In a bold demonstration of his commitment to youth empowerment and excellence, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has offered automatic employment to nine Ex-Corps members of Abia origin who recently emerged as recipients of the prestigious Presidential NYSC Honour Awards.

Governor Otti made the announcement while receiving the awardees, who were led to his office by the NYSC State Coordinator, Barr. Gladys Adama. He directed the State Head of Service to issue them appointment letters without delay, marking a temporary lifting of the existing embargo on employment in the State civil service.

“On behalf of the State Government, you are going to leave here with a token. But beyond the token, I hereby temporarily lift the embargo on employment to employ the nine of you, except if any of you is not interested.

“So, having lifted that embargo and having employed all of you, I also close the embargo.

“Honourable Attorney General, please communicate to the Head of Service that the nine of them should be given automatic employment. No interviews. They have already passed the interviews.

“So, what you need to do is go and do your documentation and then you can start work on Monday,” Governor Otti declared.

The Governor, while commending the honourees for distinguishing themselves during their service year, urged them to sustain the spirit of excellence in all their future endeavours. He also praised the NYSC State Coordinator for her commitment to grooming young leaders and for presenting the awardees to the State Government.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Nwogu Chinomso from Obingwa LGA, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for the recognition and the rare privilege of automatic employment. He pledged that they would serve the State diligently and contribute to its growth.

“I want to sincerely express our heartfelt gratitude to you, Your Excellency, for the recognition and encouragement you have given to us.

”Also, let me use this opportunity to commend your good work in the State. Your Excellency, you are a true leader. You are the Joshua of our time. Our prayer is that the Almighty God will continue to give you the wisdom to pilot the affairs of this State in Jesus name. Amen,” Chinomso said.

Earlier, while introducing the honourees, Barr. Gladys Adama highlighted that the nine Ex-Corps members were among those decorated by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on July 29, 2025, for their exceptional contributions during their service year. She revealed that although none of them served in Abia State, they stood out in their various places of primary assignment across the country, including the far North.

“I have come with these persons who have done Abia proud. Out of about a hundred and something, Your Excellency, Abia came first with nine of these champions,” she stated with pride.
