Indonesian Man Beats Neighbour Who Kept Asking Him Why He Was Not Married At 45 to Death
A shocking case of alleged murder has rocked Indonesia after a 45-year-old man was accused of killing his 60-year-old neighbour, claiming he could no longer endure years of repeated jokes and questions about why he had never married.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on July 29 in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra.
According to Indonesian media, the victim, retired civil servant Asgim Irianto, was attacked at his residence at about 8 p.m. by his neighbour, Parlindungan Siregar, who allegedly arrived armed with a piece of wood.
The region’s Assistant Police Commissioner, Maria Marpaung, disclosed that based on the account of the victim’s wife, the suspect launched the attack without warning.
Asgim reportedly fled onto the street in a desperate attempt to escape but was chased by the attacker, who allegedly struck him on the head with the wooden object. After he collapsed, the suspect allegedly continued beating him until residents intervened.
Neighbours eventually stopped the assault and rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital. However, he reportedly died before reaching the medical facility.
During police interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he had deliberately set out to kill his neighbour because he was deeply hurt and frustrated by the victim’s repeated teasing about his unmarried status.
According to investigators, the victim had frequently joked by asking why the suspect had never married, remarks that reportedly built up resentment over time.
Police also revealed that the relationship between the two neighbours had been strained before the fatal incident. Reports indicated they had previously argued over their chickens wandering into each other’s coops, adding to the growing tension between them.
Authorities have since taken the suspect into custody as investigations into the incident continue. The case has sparked widespread discussion about the devastating consequences of unresolved grievances and long-standing personal conflicts.
