Islamic Cleric Laments Nigeria’s Image Abroad, Questions President’s Vacation Amid National Challenges
An Islamic cleric has expressed concern over what he described as the growing negative perception of Nigerians abroad, linking the situation to the international image of the country under the current administration.
The cleric, while speaking on the state of affairs in Nigeria, lamented that Nigerians travelling outside the country are increasingly being viewed with suspicion, particularly over allegations and perceptions surrounding drug-related activities.
According to him, the situation has become so troubling that even Nigerians with no connection to illicit drugs could face negative assumptions simply because of their nationality.
“Now as a Nigerian, you land anywhere around the world and the see you as a drug dealer. I have never seen cocaine but now the think we all deal with cocaine in Nigeria because of our President,“ he stated.
The cleric’s comments reflect his broader concern about the international reputation of Nigeria and how developments within the country may influence perceptions of its citizens overseas.
He further questioned the timing of the President’s reported vacation, arguing that the country is facing serious challenges that, in his view, require attention.
“And they said he is on vacation. In the midst of all these chaos”
His remarks have added to the ongoing public debate over Nigeria’s domestic challenges, the country’s international image and the expectations placed on political leaders during periods of heightened national concern.
