Omoba Community Police Nab Suspected Night-Time Terror With Toy Gun and Knife in Isiala Ngwa South
Security operatives of the Omoba Community Police have arrested a suspected criminal believed to be a young man who had been terrorizing residents of Omoba community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.
The suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025, during a routine night patrol at the Omoba Market axis.
According to local security sources, the arrest occurred at about 2:00 a.m., a period often associated with criminal activity in the area.
Items recovered from the suspect included a toy gun and a knife, which he allegedly used to intimidate and instill fear among residents, traders, and night travelers within the community. The use of a fake firearm reportedly made it difficult for victims to distinguish between real and imitation weapons, heightening fear and insecurity in the area.
Residents of Omoba have in recent weeks raised concerns over increasing night-time harassment and threats around the market and adjoining streets, prompting intensified surveillance and patrols by the community police.
The arrest has been welcomed by community members, who praised the vigilance and swift response of the Omoba Community Police in restoring calm and sending a strong warning to criminal elements.
The suspect is currently in custody, while investigations continue to determine the extent of his activities and whether he is linked to other criminal incidents in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
