PRIVATE VISIT TURNS POLITICAL MOMENTUM AS HON. DANNIE “MANJA” UBANI’S SENSITISATION CAMPAIGN SPARKS MASS MOBILISATION IN UMUAGU, OMOBA AS FORMER PDP LEADER HON. CHIEF HILLARY ALOZIE FORMALLY JOINS LABOUR PARTY
A private political visit by the 2023 Labour Party candidate for Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, Hon. Dannie Manja Ubani, has unexpectedly transformed into a moment of grassroots political mobilisation in Umuagu Omoba, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.
Ubani, popularly known as “Manja,” made the visit as part of his ongoing sensitisation campaign aimed at encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise. The visit, which was initially meant to be a quiet engagement with a political stakeholder, soon attracted a large number of residents who gathered to welcome him.
According to Ubani, the purpose of the visit was primarily part of his grassroots voter mobilisation effort across communities in Isiala Ngwa South.
“in furtherance of my voters sensitization exercise for the ongoing voters registration, I was in Umuagu Omoba on a private visit to Hon. Hilary Alozia.
“Hon. Chief Hillary Alozie, a former leader of Isiala Ngwa South Legislative Council and former LGA Chairman of the now dead PDP, has formally joined our great party, LP.
“To my utmost surprise, what was purely a private visit burgeoned to rally as our people thronged in their numbers to welcome their darling Manja.
“While thanking them for their support for the transformational leadership of Gov. Alex Otti, I implored them to intensify such support by getting their voters card,“ Hon. Ubani wrote on his Facebook.
The development marks a notable political shift in the area as Hon. Chief Hillary Alozie, a former leader of the Isiala Ngwa South Legislative Council and former Local Government Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), publicly aligned himself with the Labour Party.
The gathering also underscored the growing influence of the Labour Party in the Isiala Ngwa South axis since the emergence of the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, whose governance has continued to attract new political supporters and realignments across the state.
Umuagu, Omoba, the venue of the political development is particularly significant in the local political landscape as it is the hometown of Hon. Rowland Dennis Chiwendu, popularly known as Caesar, the current member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.
It is noted that the political dynamics of the area have continued to evolve since Chiwendu decamped to the ruling Labour Party in 2025, a move that further consolidated the party’s influence within the constituency.
Political watchers say the spontaneous turnout witnessed during Ubani’s visit reflects the growing political consciousness among residents and the increasing grassroots mobilisation ahead of future electoral contests in the state.
The event also highlights the intensifying efforts by Labour Party stakeholders to sustain voter awareness campaigns and strengthen support structures across com
munities in Abia State.
