Russia: Ukraine to get UK’s long-range ballistic missiles

The United Kingdom has initiated the process of developing new tactical ballistic missiles to help Ukraine defend itself from Russia’s war machinery.

The invention, under Project Nightfall, has a range of over 500 kilometers and is designed to operate on high-threat battlefields with heavy electromagnetic interference.

The warheads will be capable of being launched from a range of vehicles, firing multiple missiles in quick succession and withdrawing within minutes.

Britain says production of the 200kg conventional high explosives builds on its commitment to bolster Ukraine’s resistance, in addition to thousands of attack drones donated.

Defence Secretary, John Healey, condemned last Thursday’s overnight Russian strikes, saying such attacks toughen the UK’s determination to help the Ukrainians as they fight back.

Recalling how he and others heard the air raid sirens around Lviv when they visited, Healey said it was a stark reminder of the barrage of drones and missiles hitting people on the ground.

“Putin thinks he can act with impunity, targeting civilian areas with advanced weaponry,” Healey noted. “Instead of seriously negotiating a peace, he’s seriously escalating his illegal war.”

Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, Luke Pollard, is confident that the new long-range missiles “will keep Ukraine in the fight and give Putin another thing to worry about.”

The UK and France are leading the Coalition of the Willing. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Emmanuel Macron have announced plans to establish military bases and build weapon storage in Ukraine.

Last week, Russia condemned the continued “militarisation of Ukraine,” adding that its allies’ plans are “becoming increasingly more dangerous and destructive” for the future of Europe and its residents.
