As the world marks World Teachers’ Day 2025, which coincides with the ongoing World Space Week, the Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has extended heartfelt commendations to teachers across Abia State and beyond, describing them as the “unsung architects of human civilization and national transformation.”

While emphasizing the importance of this year’s theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” Hon. Iheke noted that the message resonates deeply with the Alex Otti-led administration’s vision of revitalizing the education sector through teacher empowerment, professionalism, and welfare-oriented policies.

According to the Aba North Council boss, World Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually on October 5th, not only honours the noble contributions of teachers but also commemorates the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, a global benchmark document that defines the rights, responsibilities, and working conditions of teachers, alongside standards for their training, recruitment, and career advancement.

“This day reminds us that teachers are the backbone of every society. They nurture generations, inspire innovation, and shape destinies. 

“In Abia State, Governor Alex Otti has demonstrated beyond rhetoric that the dignity of teachers must be restored, and the teaching profession repositioned for global relevance,” Hon. Iheke said.

Hon. Iheke hailed Governor Otti’s unprecedented recruitment of qualified teachers across public schools in the state, a bold move aimed at bridging manpower gaps and ensuring quality education delivery. He further praised the continuous professional development programs initiated by the state government, which provide modern training for teachers to align with digital learning and global best practices.

He highlighted that under Governor Otti’s leadership, teachers’ welfare has become a top priority, with prompt salary payments, improved working conditions, and plans for enhanced incentives that encourage dedication, productivity, and innovation in classrooms.

“The Gov Otti administration has rekindled hope among teachers. For the first time in many years, Abia’s teachers can teach with pride, knowing their welfare is guaranteed and their work appreciated. This is a clear demonstration of visionary leadership that values human capital development as the foundation of a prosperous state,” Hon. Iheke continued.

The Council Chairman linked the theme of collaboration in teaching to the Alex Otti government’s inclusive education reform strategy, where teachers, parents, school administrators, and policymakers work together to achieve a shared goal to transforming Abia into an educational powerhouse driven by integrity, innovation, and excellence.

While calling on all stakeholders to continue supporting the government’s educational agenda, Hon. Iheke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment at the local government level to promoting education through the provision of teaching aids, school renovation, and grassroots support for teachers.

“Education remains the greatest investment in the future. As we celebrate our teachers today, let us remember that every classroom, every chalkboard, and every pupil taught represents the seed of a brighter tomorrow. 

“Governor Alex Otti is planting those seeds and under his leadership, Abia will reap a harvest of enlightened citizens and responsible leaders,” he stated.

Hon. Iheke congratulated teachers in Aba North and across Abia State on their special day, urging them to remain steadfast and proud of their calling, as their work continues to illuminate the path toward a just, knowledgeable, and progressive society.
