GOV. ALEX OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: Gov. Alex Otti Announces Construction of 79 PHCs, Recruitment of 771 Medical Professionals, and Rehabilitation of Key Hospitals

…says Applications Even Come From Other African Countries 

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to transforming the healthcare system in the state through massive infrastructure renewal and recruitment of qualified medical personnel.

Governor Otti made this known on Thursday during the October edition of the Monthly Media Parley tagged: “Governor Alex Otti Speaks.”

Speaking on the ongoing reforms in the health sector, the Governor disclosed that “79 primary health centres were being built or renovated, with 771 medical professionals currently being recruited through a transparent, merit-based process.”

The Governor explained that the ongoing efforts were aimed at ensuring that every Abian, regardless of location, has access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

According to him, “Reconstruction of the general hospitals is ongoing in phases. The Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, and the Umunneato General Hospital are among those being worked on. 

“Recruitment of the 774 healthcare professionals is ongoing. Some areas recorded low applications, and we have directed the Civil Service Commission to reopen the portal. 

“So far, we have about 500 successful applications including from other African countries, which makes us happy.”

Governor Otti emphasized that the process of recruiting health workers was transparent and merit-based, reflecting his administration’s commitment to efficiency and professionalism in public service delivery.

He further encouraged residents to take advantage of the revitalized health facilities and the improved medical services being powered by renewable energy.

The Governor noted that the government’s goal is to ensure that every community has at least one fully functional primary healthcare centre, while secondary health facilities across the state are being modernized to meet global standards.

He added that these investments in healthcare infrastructure and manpower development were part of his broader agenda to rebuild Abia State’s critical sectors and improve the overall quality of life for citizens.

With the ongoing transformation across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare levels, Abia State under Governor Alex Otti is setting a new benchmark for sustainable and people-centered health service delivery in Nigeria.
