Details Emerges as U.S. Congressional Delegation Holds High-Level Security Talks in Nigeria, Emphasizes Urgent Action Against Terrorism and Christian Persecution
Details have emerged regarding the recent strategic visit of a bipartisan delegation from the United States Congress to Nigeria, aimed at assessing security challenges and strengthening bilateral cooperation. The visit, which comes amid heightened concern in Washington over violent attacks on Christians and escalating terrorism in Nigeria, involved high-level discussions with Nigeria’s top security officials.
American Congressman Rep. Riley Moore shared key insights from the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, highlighting the depth and significance of the talks.
“I want to thank National Security Advisor @NuhuRibadu for a productive and positive conversation with the US Congressional delegation to Nigeria,” Moore wrote.
He noted that the discussions were not just symbolic, but focused on tangible security outcomes.
“There were concrete steps and actions discussed at length, that if fully executed, I believe will enhance security across the country for all Nigerians, disrupt and destroy terrorist organizations in the northeast and stop the killing of Christians (a specific concern for @POTUS and myself) — particularly in the Middle Belt of the country.”
Moore also commended the Nigerian government for its recent rescue operation of school children, describing it as a key demonstration of the country’s growing commitment to tackling security threats.
“I want to thank the Nigerian government and @officialABAT for rescuing the 100 innocent and precious Catholic school children. This is a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation and shows commitment to the emergency declaration laid out by President Tinubu.”
Reflecting on the U.S. delegation’s engagement, Moore stressed that their concerns were met with a receptive and cooperative response.
“The US’ sense of urgency on our concerns was positively received. I feel that a cooperative security framework is within sight. The now established joint task force between Nigeria and the US is a great example.”
He further underscored the Nigerian government’s willingness to collaborate with international partners to address pressing security issues, while urging swift translation of discussions into action.
“It is clear that there is an openness and willingness on the part of the Nigerian government to work with the United States to tackle these critical issues. Now, that openness has to translate to concrete action.”
Moore concluded on a hopeful note, acknowledging that challenges remain but emphasizing progress.
“There is much work still to be done, but things are moving in the right direction. I look forward to the next steps with Nigerian government and the continued open dialogue. Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria.”
