Cross-Over Night Is for Gratitude, Not Chaos — Aba North Chairman, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke Issues Strong Security Advisory Ahead of New Year
The Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has issued a firm and heartfelt appeal to residents of the council area to embrace peace, reflection, and spiritual renewal as they step into the New Year, warning against any form of security breach or disorder during tonight’s cross-over activities.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Hon. Iheke urged residents not to turn cross-over night into an avenue for lawlessness, chaos, or security violations, but rather to see it as a sacred moment to reflect, give thanks, and remain in the presence of God Almighty for the grace of life and protection throughout the year.
“Cross-over night is not a night for mayhem or recklessness. It is a moment for sober reflection, gratitude to God, and prayers for a better tomorrow. We must not repay God’s mercy with actions that threaten lives and property,” the Chairman stated.
Hon. Iheke specifically warned against the burning of tyres on major roads, an act commonly referred to as “Ichu Afọr” in the Igbo language, describing it as dangerous, disruptive, and unacceptable. He also condemned the growing practice of using fireworks as weapons, where individuals engage in reckless exchanges that put innocent lives at risk.
“Burning tyres on our roads and engaging in fireworks battles are not celebrations; they are acts of irresponsibility. They endanger motorists, residents, and security personnel. Aba North will not tolerate such actions,” he warned.
The Chairman emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, stressing that it must not be left solely in the hands of government or security agencies.
“Security is everybody’s business. Parents must caution their children, youths must exercise restraint, and communities must stay alert. We all have a role to play in keeping Aba North safe,” he said.
Hon. Iheke reminded residents that the relative peace and reduction in insecurity currently enjoyed in Aba North and across Abia State did not happen by accident, but is the result of deliberate policies and firm leadership under the visionary administration of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
“Under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership, insecurity has significantly reduced. We must not reverse these gains with careless actions. Let us protect the peace we now enjoy,” he added.
As the year draws to a close, the Aba North Chairman extended warm New Year wishes to all residents, expressing optimism for a brighter future.
“On behalf of the Aba North Local Government, I wish every resident a peaceful and prosperous New Year in advance. By God’s grace, 2026 will be better for us all, a year of greater peace, progress, and shared prosperity,” Hon. Iheke concluded.
Residents are therefore advised to celebrate responsibly, comply with security guidelines, and report any suspicious activities to relevant authorities as Aba North welcomes the New Year in peace and unity.
