GOV. ALEX OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: Abia Targets 200 Revamped Primary Healthcare Centres as Gov. Otti Unveils Health Sector Reforms, Wins National Accolades
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has disclosed that his administration is undertaking a comprehensive renovation and functionalisation of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state, with an initial target of 200 facilities aimed at strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery.
The Governor made this known on Tuesday during the December edition of the Monthly Media Parley, themed Governor Otti Speaks, while responding to questions from journalists on the performance of his administration across critical sectors of the state’s economy.
Governor Otti explained that healthcare remains a core pillar of his government’s reform agenda, stressing that accessible and functional primary healthcare is essential to improving the wellbeing of Abians, particularly those in rural communities. He revealed that significant progress has already been recorded, citing Bende Local Government Area where no fewer than 16 Primary Healthcare Centres have recently been renovated and brought back to functional standards.
He noted that while the pace of work may appear gradual in some areas, the administration is deliberate and uncompromising on quality.
According to him, the government insists on meeting minimum operational standards before declaring any facility functional, including the provision of essential equipment and the deployment of qualified health professionals to man the centres.
The Governor further highlighted that the impact of these reforms is already gaining national recognition, as Abia State recently clinched multiple awards at the national level. These include honours for Health Emergency Preparedness, Primary Healthcare Leadership, and effective Health Partnerships.
He described the awards as a strong validation of the commitment, dedication, and professionalism of healthcare workers in the state, as well as the renewed drive and strategic leadership of the Abia State Ministry of Health under his administration.
Governor Otti reaffirmed his resolve to continue investing in the health sector, assuring that the ongoing reforms are part of a broader plan to build a resilient, efficient, and people-centred healthcare system capable of meeting both present and future challenges i
