Abia State Assembly Places Three Key Motions on Notice as Lawmakers Seek Solutions to School Infrastructure Deficit, Protection of Public Spaces, and Regulation of Outdoor Noise in Residential Areas

The Abia State House of Assembly has formally placed three important motions on notice, setting the stage for legislative deliberations aimed at addressing pressing developmental and social issues affecting communities across the state.
During plenary, members were notified of the motions and directed to carefully study the proposals ahead of their formal presentation and debate on a future legislative date.
One of the motions, H.A.M 47, calls on the Abia State Government to urgently address the growing infrastructure deficit and the inequitable distribution of teachers across primary and junior secondary schools in Ikwuano Local Government Area. The motion, sponsored by Hon. Isienyi Boniface, seeks government intervention to ensure that schools in the area are adequately equipped and staffed to improve the quality of education available to pupils and students.
The lawmaker raised concerns about the imbalance in teacher deployment as well as inadequate educational facilities in several schools within the local government area, a situation that has continued to affect effective teaching and learning.
In another motion placed before the House, H.A.M 48 advocates for the reclamation of open spaces across Abia State. The motion, sponsored by Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu representing Aba Central State Constituency, highlights the need for government action to recover public spaces that may have been encroached upon or illegally converted for private use.
The proposal aims to protect public land meant for recreational, environmental, and community purposes while promoting proper urban planning and sustainable development across the state.
Also placed on notice is H.A.M 49, another motion sponsored by Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, which seeks to regulate the use of loud outdoor speakers in designated residential areas in Aba.
The motion focuses on addressing the growing concerns over noise pollution within residential neighborhoods, particularly from outdoor loudspeakers used by businesses, religious centers, and other establishments. The proposed regulation is intended to promote peaceful coexistence and improve the quality of life for residents living within these communities.
With the motions now formally placed on notice, members of the House have been tasked with studying the proposals in detail in preparation for robust legislative engagement when they are eventually presented for debate during a future plenary session of the Assembly.
