Abia Strengthens Security Framework as Nigerian Air Force Establishes Presence; Air Commodore SP Sekegor Deployed as Pioneer Commander
The security architecture of Abia State has received a major boost with the deployment of Air Commodore SP Sekegor as the first Nigerian Air Force Commander in the state, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to reinforce safety and strategic security coordination.
Air Commodore Sekegor formally joined heads of other security agencies at the monthly State Security Meeting chaired by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti. The meeting underscores the administration’s sustained commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and proactive security management across the state.
The deployment follows earlier strategic steps taken by the state government to facilitate the establishment of a Nigerian Air Force presence in Abia.
Governor Otti had approved the allocation of at least 100 hectares of land to the Nigerian Air Force within the site of the ongoing Abia Airport project, a move aimed at supporting the development of a full operational and training base in the state.
During a prior working visit, the Governor also assured a delegation of the Nigerian Air Force, led by Air Vice Marshal Adebayo Gabriel Kehinde, Air Officer Commanding, Ground Training Command, of the prompt issuance of Certificates of Occupancy in line with the administration’s policy of delivering such documentation within 30 days upon fulfillment of necessary requirements.
Further demonstrating his administration’s urgency, Governor Otti pledged to ensure the timely completion of the renovation of the Air Force office in Umuahia, which is being facilitated by the state government. The project is expected to be delivered before the end of April to enable the Chief of Air Staff to formally commission and take possession of the facility.
Air Commodore Sekegor, who assumed duty from the Nigerian Air Force Base in Imo State, brings with him extensive operational experience expected to significantly enhance intelligence sharing, rapid response capabilities, and overall security coordination within Abia State.
Also in attendance at the meeting was the newly posted State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Odimba Chukwuemeka Nichosin, who participated in his first State Security Meeting, further reflecting ongoing efforts to consolidate leadership across critical security institutions.
As Chief Security Officer of the state, Governor Otti continues to demonstrate a firm commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained support for security agencies, promotion of inter-agency synergy, and the institutionalization of regular security reviews.
