…as Information Commissioner, Prince Kanu Warns Motorists to Obey Traffic Laws During Ember Months as Offenders Will Face Full Wrath of the Law

The Abia State Government has intensified its road safety awareness campaign, urging motorists across the state to prioritize safety, especially during the ember months.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday at Government House, Umuahia, while addressing the press on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

The Commissioner used the opportunity to advise Abians to be mindful of their safety on the roads during this critical period, emphasizing that motorists are expected to obey all traffic rules in order not to endanger their lives and the lives of other road users.

“Of particular focus is the issue of driving against traffic, referred to as ‘one-way driving’. Because of the menace that this practice poses on our roads, the State Ministry of Transport, through its Transport Enforcement Team and in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Commission, have launched a campaign, codenamed ‘Road Safety is a Shared Responsibility, Drive to Arrive.’”

Prince Kanu warned that the state government would not tolerate any form of recklessness or lawlessness on Abia roads, stressing that traffic violators, irrespective of their social status, would face the full weight of the law.

“No matter how highly placed in society, if you are caught violating the traffic rules, you will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” he cautioned.

The Information Commissioner further noted that the exemplary conduct of the state’s leadership, especially Governor Alex Otti, serves as a model for all Abians.

“A situation whereby the Governor’s convoy obeys traffic rules, no motorist in the state will have reasons not to comply fully with the traffic rules in the state,” Prince Kanu emphasized.

The Commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that Abia roads remain safe for all, while calling on the public to join hands with the government in promoting responsible driving habits across the state.
