Abia State Govt Moves to Enforce Supreme Court Verdict on Ndi Ebe/Ndi Ojiugwo Abam Land Dispute, Assures Fairness, Security and Lasting Peace
The Abia State Government has officially commenced the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment on the protracted land dispute between Ndi Ebe and Ndi Ojiugwo Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area, bringing a decisive legal closure to years of contention after the apex court ruled in favour of Ndi Ebe.
The move signals a significant step by the administration of Governor Alex Otti toward strengthening the rule of law, promoting peaceful coexistence, and consolidating boundary clarity among communities in the state.
Addressing the people of Ndi Ebe and Ndi Ojiugwo, the Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, who was represented by Surveyor Chris Nwanevu, the State Consultant on Boundary Matters, assured both parties that the exercise would be carried out fairly and strictly in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
He urged residents not to interfere with the process, noting that no villagers would be allowed around the affected area until the exercise is completed. He added that both communities would be invited to inspect the completed work to ensure agreement and mutual acceptance.
The assurance was aimed at preventing tension, misinformation, or disruption as technical teams begin the demarcation process in accordance with the certified judgment of the Supreme Court.
Nwanevu also assured the communities of adequate security presence throughout the duration of the exercise. He emphasized that the administration of Governor Alex Otti remains committed to peace, unity, and development in the state objectives that can only be achieved in a calm and secure environment.
He made it clear that government’s priority is not only to enforce the judgment but to ensure that the enforcement process itself becomes a foundation for reconciliation and stability in the affected communities.
Speaking further, Nwanevu stated:
“We have come to inform you that work has commenced in the area where the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Ndi Ebe, and it will be demarcated in line with the judgment. The work will be carried out transparently to ensure that peace is restored. Governor Alex Otti, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and members of the State House of Assembly have all given their consent to this process,” Nwanevu stated, while calling for patience and cooperation from both communities.
His remarks underscored the unified position of the executive and legislative arms of government in ensuring that the Supreme Court verdict is implemented without bias or delay.
Nwanevu further noted that the government has made significant efforts toward positive peace-building initiatives across the state, urging all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at fostering growth, progress, and development.
In their separate remarks, Ezeogo Okoko Arunsi (Ocha-oza), President General of Ndi Ebe Abam; Deacon Awo Chijioke; and Mrs. Chinyere Eze Agbai commended the government for its clarification and assurances of fairness in implementing the Supreme Court judgment on the disputed boundary.
