The Abia State Government has recorded fresh milestones in its ongoing Light-Up Abia Initiative, reaffirming its commitment to reliable and sustainable electricity across communities in the state.

Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, revealed that the installation of a 300 kVA–0.35 kVA transformer substation is currently in progress, signifying another bold step towards achieving round-the-clock power supply in strategic areas. He further disclosed that the survey for the Ohafia routing of a 33 kVA line from Ihechiowa to Asaga, Ohafia, spanning 27.69 kilometers, is actively underway, a development expected to boost electricity accessibility and stimulate economic activities in the region.

During the week’s Executive Council briefing held at Government House, Umuahia, and presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner announced that the Governor has directed the immediate operationalisation of the solar power project at the SDG Hospital, Ugwunagbo. With this directive, both staff and patients at the facility are set to enjoy uninterrupted power supply, a move that underscores the administration’s drive to enhance healthcare delivery through modern energy solutions.

Reassuring Abians of the government’s transparency and accountability in infrastructural projects, Prince Kanu emphasized that under Governor Otti’s leadership, no community will be shortchanged in matters relating to land acquisition. He stated that any land acquired by the government will be utilized strictly for the specific project purpose, reflecting the administration’s adherence to due process and respect for community rights.

The Light-Up Abia Initiative remains one of the flagship projects of Governor Otti’s administration, aimed at transforming Abia into a fully electrified, business-friendly, and economically vibrant state.
