APGA Abia Debunks Sack Claim, Says Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe Voluntarily Resigned, Alleges Plot to Fabricate Expulsion Letter to Justify Defection
The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State has firmly denied claims that it sacked Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe or threatened to expel him from the party, insisting instead that the lawmaker voluntarily resigned his membership.
The party further accused Abaribe of allegedly recruiting former members who had earlier been dismissed from the party to fabricate a letter in APGA’s name in an attempt to support his claim that he was expelled.
The Abia State chapter of the party made its position known through its spokesperson, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, in a press statement made available to journalists.
In the statement, Nwokoro said the claim by Abaribe that he was sacked from the party was merely an attempt to justify what he described as the senator’s unwarranted resignation.
According to him, the party deemed it necessary to address the issue publicly in order to set the record straight and prevent what it described as misinformation from gaining traction among the public and within the legislative community.
Nwokoro added that the leadership of APGA is using the medium to inform the general public, Abians, and particularly the Senate, that it has come to the notice of the party leadership in the state that Senator Abaribe has allegedly started secret movements, trying to recruit people who are no longer members of the party to come together and produce a letter purportedly stating that he was sacked in September 2025.
The party maintained that such an alleged move was aimed at covering up what it described as false claims previously presented to the Senate.
“This move is intended to cover up the lies that he was sacked in September, which he told the Senate, with the intention of deceiving Senate members into accepting his unconstitutional defection to another party, knowing fully well that APGA has no element of crisis in any facet of the party’s leadership, the only basis for defection.
“Let it be known that Senator Abaribe was neither sacked nor expelled from the party. Senator Abaribe resigned from the party on December 30, 2025, and submitted his resignation letter to the Ahiaba Ward 5 chairman of Obingwa LGA,” the release stated.
Nwokoro argued that the timeline of events contradicts the senator’s claim of expulsion.
According to him, if Senator Abaribe had truly been sacked in September 2025 as he claimed, there would have been no reason for him to submit a resignation letter three months later in December 2025.
The APGA spokesperson pointed out that the action of tendering a resignation letter clearly contradicts the narrative that he was expelled from the party.
“Any person expelled from a party is no longer a member of that party, but here, after three months of the purported sack, he filed a resignation letter. It is clear that APGA, as a national party, has neither problems nor crises anywhere in the entire nation, let alone in the national leadership; it is the most peaceful party.
“Let it be known that all the secret moves by Senator Abaribe’s recruits over the past 48 hours have been uncovered. He promised them heavily if they could produce the fake document to enable him to submit it to the Senate on Tuesday or Wednesday in defense of the lies he used to deceive the Senate,” the release added.
Nwokoro further disclosed that the party has already uncovered what it described as clandestine efforts by individuals allegedly working on behalf of the senator over the past 48 hours to produce the said document.
The APGA spokesperson also issued a stern warning to those allegedly involved in the move, cautioning them against any action capable of bringing embarrassment or disrepute to the party.
He stressed that any such action should be halted immediately, warning that those responsible could face consequences if they proceed with activities that could damage the party’s integrity.
