Councillor, Hon. Samuel Uchenna Redeems Education Pledge, Sponsors WAEC Fees for Ovungwu Ward 08 Students in Isiala Ngwa South
In a clear demonstration of people-oriented leadership and commitment to grassroots development, the Councillor representing Ovungwu Ward 08 in the Isiala Ngwa South Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Uchenna, has fulfilled his earlier promise to sponsor the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees of students from his ward for the 2026 examination year.
The fulfillment of the pledge was formally confirmed at the councillor’s country home in Umuokoro-Ovungwu, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, where beneficiaries and community stakeholders gathered to witness the intervention.
A total of about twelve students drawn from various villages within Ovungwu Ward 08 benefited from the gesture. The beneficiaries cut across communities including Umuaja, Umuotiri, Amaede, Umuntumaka, Umuapu, Umugu, and Umuarongwu, reflecting an inclusive approach that touched families across the ward.
The initiative was widely applauded as a strategic investment in education and human capital development, especially at a time when many parents are burdened by rising educational costs. By removing the financial barrier associated with WAEC registration, Hon. Samuel Uchenna has opened new opportunities for the affected students to pursue their academic aspirations without hindrance.
The event attracted key education and political stakeholders from the local government area, including the Supervisor for Education in Isiala Ngwa South, Hon. Mrs. Grace Njoku, and the Ovungwu Ward Party Chairman, Hon. Francis Okechi, alongside other party leaders, community figures, parents, and well-wishers.
Observers described the gesture as a practical example of responsive representation, noting that it aligns with the broader goal of empowering young people through education at the grassroots level. Many community members expressed gratitude, describing the intervention as timely, impactful, and reflective of leadership that listens and delivers.
Hon. Uchenna’s action has further strengthened his bond with the people of Ovungwu Ward 08 and reinforced the growing call for leaders who translate promises into tangible outcomes, particularly in areas that shape the future of the next
generation.
