GOV. ALEX OTTI’S ADMINISTRATION COMPLETES FIRST PHASE OF MASSIVE SCHOOL RENOVATION PROJECTS, TRAINS 100 TEACHERS FOR SMART SCHOOLS ACROSS THE THREE SENATORIAL ZONES

In a remarkable stride towards transforming the educational landscape of Abia State, nine out of the sixty-three schools currently undergoing renovation across the state have been fully completed and are ready for use.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday during a press briefing at the Government House, Umuahia, where he addressed newsmen on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

He revealed that the remaining fifty-four schools are at various stages of completion, adding that the ongoing projects are part of the administration’s commitment to revamping the learning environment in public schools across the state.

“This, of course, is in line with the government’s agenda of transforming the learning environment in our public schools across the 17th LGAs in the state,” he said.

The Commissioner further highlighted that the completed schools, spread across the three senatorial zones in demonstration of the administration’s inclusive governance policy, include: Nkata Community Primary School, Ibeku High School, and Ohuhu Community Secondary School, Amaogugu, all in Umuahia North LGA.

“Others are the Migrant Farmers Primary School, Osisioma; Umuagbai Secondary School, Aba; Abayi Nchokoro Primary School, Ugwunagbo; Owerre Aba Primary School, Ugwunagbo; Omoba Central Model Primary School, Isiala Ngwa South LGA; and Abiriba Nmaju Memorial Primary School, Ohafia LGA,” Prince Kanu stated.

He also noted that construction work is ongoing at three smart schools strategically located in different zones of the state including Ogbo Primary School, Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA; Umuomaikwu Primary School in Isiala Ngwa North LGA; and Umuagbai Secondary School in Aba South LGA.

According to him, the government has also commenced a special training programme for one hundred teachers who will operate the state’s smart schools, a process designed to equip them with the necessary digital and technical skills for modern learning environments.

According to the Commissioner, “This is a strategic move to equip the teachers with the special skills required to operate the smart schools in the state. This training will go on for three weeks. They’ve done one week, and in another two weeks, they’ll be done with the training,” Prince Kanu stated.

He further disclosed that the posting exercise for some of the newly recruited teachers in the state would be concluded this week.

Prince Kanu explained that the delay was due to the state government’s deliberate effort to ensure that teachers are deployed to areas where they can serve most effectively without logistical or operational challenges.

He however advised that, “The teachers are advised to be a lot more reasonable in their request to be posted to schools where they will serve best.”

The recent progress in school renovation and teacher training reflects Governor Alex Otti’s steadfast commitment to repositioning Abia State’s educational sector for excellence, ensuring that every child in the state has access to quality learning in a conducive and modern environment.
