Nigerian Gay Rights Activist, Edafe Okporo and Husband Nick Giglio Announce Separation After Three Years of Marriage, Confirm Mutual Divorce Decision
A United States-based Nigerian gay rights activist, Edafe Okporo, and his husband, Nick Giglio, have officially announced their separation after three years of marriage, bringing an end to a relationship that began with much public attention and advocacy-driven visibility.
The Warri-born immigration rights activist, widely known for his work in support of marginalized communities, got married to Nick in July 2022. Their union had been followed by supporters and members of the LGBTQ+ community both in Nigeria and abroad, symbolizing a personal milestone as well as a broader statement on identity and rights.
On Friday, March 27, Okporo publicly confirmed the development through his Instagram page, where he shared a joint statement detailing the couple’s decision to part ways.
“Nick and I, have made the mutual decision to end our marriage. We have officially filed for a no-fault divorce by mutual agreement. This has been a hard decision, and we are taking the time and space we need to move through it with honesty and respect.
“We ask for grace as we navigate this next chapter. You’re welcome to continue holding space for both of us, together or separately.
