OGBONNAYA ONU POLYTECHNIC BREAKS NEW GROUND AS SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY TO COMMENCE OPERATIONS AT OSISIOMA CAMPUS AHEAD OF FULL RELOCATION
The School of Environmental Design and Technology (SEDT) of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic is set to commence academic activities at its Osisioma Campus this April, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s gradual transition to its permanent site ahead of a full relocation scheduled for November 2026.
This strategic move positions SEDT as the pioneer school to begin operations at the new campus, signaling the institution’s readiness to expand its academic footprint and improve learning infrastructure for students.
The development came to light during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors to the Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Christopher Okoro Kalu, on Monday, where key stakeholders expressed optimism about the institution’s transformation.
Leading the delegation, the Aba Branch Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Vincent Eze, applauded the remarkable progress recorded by the polytechnic in recent times. He noted that the institution’s current state reflects a clear departure from its past, with visible improvements in structure, reputation, and academic standards.
He further emphasized that the leadership of the Rector has repositioned the institution, elevating its standing within both academic and professional communities. As part of efforts to sustain this progress, the association announced plans to support the School of Environmental Design and Technology with practical equipment and professional manpower to strengthen hands-on training for students.
In a bid to promote academic excellence, the body also unveiled a ₦200,000 cash award to be presented to the best graduating student of SEDT during each convocation ceremony. The initiative is expected to foster healthy competition and motivate students to excel in their studies.
In his response, the Rector, Professor Christopher Okoro Kalu, attributed the steady progress of the institution to divine grace and the unwavering support of the Abia State Government under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education as a cornerstone for sustainable development.
Highlighting the critical role of practical learning in polytechnic education, the Rector directed that academic activities for SEDT students should commence at the Osisioma Campus in April. He also assured that necessary transportation arrangements would be put in place to ease movement for students, alongside partial support for the payment of their professional dues.
The planned relocation of SEDT not only underscores the institution’s commitment to growth but also reflects a broader vision of creating a more conducive and modern learning environment that aligns with global best practices in technical education.
