The once dreaded Omenuko Bridge in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, a vital link connecting Bende and Ohafia LGAs, now stands completely transformed, marking yet another milestone in Governor Alex Otti’s ongoing infrastructure revolution across the state.

For decades, the Omenuko Bridge, also known as the Igwu River Bridge, was a haunting symbol of neglect and danger. The narrow, collapsing structure beside the new bridge had claimed lives and instilled fear in travellers, forcing many to journey with anxiety rather than confidence. But today, thanks to Governor Otti’s decisive intervention, the story has changed. The route is now smooth, safe, and modern, a symbol of renewed trust in government and a reflection of Otti’s people-centered governance.

Governor Alex Otti, OFR, had earlier in February 2025, flagged off the reconstruction of the long-abandoned bridge at Ozuabam in Arochukwu, declaring that his administration will not play politics with the welfare of Abians. He emphasized that whether a road or bridge falls under federal or state jurisdiction, his government’s priority remains the people’s comfort, safety, and progress.

“What we are doing as a government is that anywhere that we see that work needs to be done, we don’t wait for people to ask us, we begin to do the work.

“You can be sure that your government, which is a very responsible government, will attend to them,” Governor Otti affirmed during the flag-off ceremony.

The governor revealed that the bridge was initially excluded from the 2024 budget due to an assumption that it had already been awarded by the federal government.

However, after discovering that no such project existed, his administration quickly initiated budget adjustments and secured the necessary funds.

“Before we start any project, we already have plans to fund that project. I am glad to report to you today that the money required to complete this road project is sitting somewhere waiting,” he assured the cheering crowd during the Flag-off.

In a move that underscores his hands-on leadership, Governor Otti also directed the Commissioner for Works to revise the delivery timeline from one year to nine months. This decision followed discussions with the contractor, who confirmed readiness to meet the accelerated deadline.

Today, the new Omenuko Bridge is more than a physical structure, it’s a promise fulfilled, a link restored, and a new chapter in the story of Abia’s infrastructural rebirth under Governor Alex Otti. With smooth access between Bende, Ohafia, and Arochukwu, residents can now travel with ease and confidence, not with their hearts in their hands, but with gratitude for leadership that truly cares.
