ASTOPU Umuahia Zone Fulfills Promise to Bereaved Member, Extends Financial and Moral Support to Mr. Ugochukwu Olli Ahead of His Family’s Burial

In a moving display of solidarity and compassion, the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Umuahia Zone, has fulfilled its promise to support one of its members, Mr. Ugochukwu Olli, who tragically lost his wife and mother in a fatal tricycle accident in July 2025.

The tragic incident, which occurred near the Signboard area in Umuahia along the route to Ubani Market, claimed four lives, including Mrs. Chiamaka Ugochukwu Olli (the wife of Mr. Olli), Mrs. Ijeoma Olli (his mother), and two others. The devastating loss sent shockwaves across the tricycle operators’ community, prompting an outpouring of empathy and immediate intervention from ASTOPU Umuahia Zone.

Following an initial condolence visit in July, the union leadership, led by its chairman, Comrade Appolos, paid another formal visit to Mr. Olli to reaffirm their unwavering support as the family prepares for the burial of the deceased on November 7, 2025. During the visit, the union presented financial assistance to help with burial arrangements and other pressing needs. The late Mrs. Chiamaka and Mrs. Ijeoma Olli are to be laid to rest at the family compound of Mr. Olli in Nneogidi Agulu, Anambra State.

Comrade Appolos, representing the leadership and members of ASTOPU, expressed deep condolences and assured the bereaved member of the union’s continued moral and financial support. He also emphasized the organization’s commitment to the welfare of Mr. Olli and his son, young Chidiebube, who lost both his mother and grandmother in the unfortunate accident.

He encouraged Mr. Olli to remain strong and stay connected to the union as preparations for the burial continue, stressing that ASTOPU’s current administration is determined to uphold the values of compassion, solidarity, and responsibility among its members.

In an emotional response, Mr. Olli expressed profound gratitude to the ASTOPU leadership for standing by him during his most difficult moment. He commended the chairman, secretary, and other executive members for their unity and sense of purpose, describing the union’s intervention as a reflection of a new era of empathy and organization.

He further acknowledged that the transformation within ASTOPU mirrors the broader spirit of renewed leadership and people-centered governance being fostered in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
