In a heartwarming display of loyalty and admiration, an Abia-born cyclist, Mr. Chisom Wisdom, has captured the spirit of the people’s love for Governor Alex Otti, OFR, following his remarkable bicycle journey from Lagos to Abia State in honour of the Governor’s visible and impactful achievements across the state.

The cyclist’s statement, “When I was coming on the way, police officers will just stop me and say, he is a good man! Just go,” has since gone viral among Abians, symbolizing the growing admiration and nationwide recognition of Governor Otti’s good governance and people-centered leadership.

Governor Otti, while receiving Mr. Wisdom on Monday, October 27th, shortly after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and happiness of Abians, stressing that nothing will distract his government from delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

“We are happy that our people are happy because the essence of government is to make your people happy, that is the welfare of the people. We will continue and will not stop,” Governor Otti assured.

He went on to express gratitude for the massive support his administration has continued to receive from Abians both at home and abroad, noting that such encouragement strengthens his resolve to do more for the state.

The Governor, who was informed of the cyclist’s arrival by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananba, after the Executive Council meeting, warmly welcomed Mr. Wisdom and commended his show of love and patriotism. He described the young man’s gesture as inspiring and symbolic of the renewed hope and pride of Abians under the new administration.

Encouraging him to remain a good ambassador of Abia anywhere he goes, Governor Otti noted that Abians have continued to distinguish themselves in their respective fields across the world, reflecting the state’s growing reputation for excellence.

Earlier, Mr. Wisdom, a native of Nunya in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of the state, where the Otti-led administration is currently reconstructing the long-abandoned 11.5-kilometre Nunya–Eluama Road said he was overwhelmed by the visible transformation taking place across the state, especially in his hometown.

He narrated that after witnessing the speed and quality of developmental projects online and during his recent visit home, he decided to embark on a symbolic cycling journey from Lagos to Umuahia as his personal tribute to Governor Otti.

“Most times when I go online, I will see things happening, I read them, and I will be like, wow! So, we really have somebody like this in the state. The last time I came to my village, I couldn’t believe it. I was like, is this place really Nunya or is it a new place? I was impressed,” he recounted.

“When I went back to Lagos, I kept seeing things going very fast. Not just when you say you want to do this, after some time, you will say you have forgotten. Things are changing with speed. If you go to Umuahia Tower now, you might not believe it, because there is light everywhere. I was seeing traffic lights, I was like, wow!”

Describing his bicycle as “a symbol of honour” to the Governor, Mr. Wisdom emotionally added, “2027 is assured, sir, because you are doing a great thing.”

He further narrated his touching encounters during the trip, revealing that security officers at checkpoints who saw his T-shirt bearing Governor Otti’s image gave him free passage, saying: “When I was coming on the way, police officers will just stop me and say, he is a good man! Just go.”

Mr. Wisdom disclosed that he left Lagos on Monday and arrived in Umuahia on Saturday, determined to personally meet the Governor and pay his homage.

Governor Otti was joined by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, Chief of Staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba, and other members of the State Executive Council to receive the young cyclist, whose story now stands as a powerful testimony of the renewed confidence and pride Abians feel under the Otti administration.
