Leaked Enyimba Hotel Phototype Stirs Excitement as Redevelopment Begins, Landmark Group to Manage Aba Leisure Park, ICC Plans Underway
The long-awaited transformation of the iconic Enyimba Hotel in Aba has finally gained momentum as redevelopment activities commence, following the recent leak of the hotel’s modern phototype. The leaked design has sparked widespread excitement among residents and investors, signaling a new dawn for Aba’s hospitality and tourism landscape.
As part of the massive urban renewal initiative by the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, the Landmark Group has been appointed to manage the Enyimba Leisure Park, strategically located across the Aba River, the area historically known as Ahia Udele.
Simultaneously, final architectural and investment plans for the Enyimba International Conference Centre (ICC) are currently being finalized, further positioning Aba as a premier destination for business, leisure, and events.
Governor Otti had earlier confirmed this transformative stride, stating: “The rehabilitation of Enyimba Hotel has commenced, and the Aba Leisure Park is also in the works. Once completed, these landmark projects will add great value to the Aba restoration effort.”
The Abia State Government had previously unveiled its strategy to boost internally generated revenue (IGR) by investing heavily in the hospitality sector. To this end, the state signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Radisson Blu, a leading global hotel brand, to rehabilitate and upgrade the long-abandoned Enyimba Hotel into a world-class five-star hospitality facility.
The redevelopment project, estimated to cost between $25 million and $50 million, is fully captured in the state’s annual budget and is expected to be completed within 24 months. Upon completion, the ultra-modern 125-room hotel is projected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, offering a significant boost to the local economy.
Governor Otti emphasized that the project aligns with his administration’s economic diversification agenda.
“We also expect this would help the state to increase its internally generated revenue and have a more robust presence in the Nigerian conference and hospitality industry,” Gov. Otti had earlier said.
Recall that the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN, had noted that the government has put in place a peaceful dispute resolution framework to ensure the project’s smooth execution and investor confidence.
Meanwhile, Erwan Garnier, Radisson Blu’s Senior Director of Development for Africa, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that the brand has been expanding across Africa since 2000 and sees Nigeria, particularly Abia State as a major growth hub.
This milestone forms a crucial part of the Otti administration’s broader plan to increase Abia’s Internally Generated Revenue. With the Enyimba Hotel, Aba Leisure Park, and the International Conference Centre in view, Abia State appears well on its path to reclaiming its place as the commercial heartbeat of the Southeast and a hub for tourism, investm
ent, and innovation.
