Abia Concludes Recruitment of 4,074 Teachers as Otti Administration Moves to Strengthen Education Sector
The Abia State Government has concluded the recruitment process for the second batch of teachers, with 4,074 successful candidates now set to join the state’s education workforce.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed the development on Monday, August 24, 2026, while briefing pressmen at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu announced that notifications of appointment had been issued to all 4,074 successful candidates, marking another significant step in the state government’s efforts to reposition and strengthen the education sector.
He explained that the recruitment exercise was conducted transparently and strictly on merit, with 50.5 per cent adopted as the overriding cut-off mark for successful candidates.
The completion of the exercise is expected to provide much-needed manpower for schools across the state, particularly in areas facing shortages of teachers and gaps in critical subject areas.
According to the Commissioner, the newly recruited teachers will commence their onboarding and orientation programme next week. Their subsequent deployment is expected to boost the capacity of schools, strengthen classroom instruction and ensure that more pupils have access to qualified teachers.
