An Australian boxer has opened up on why her partner is comfortable with her sleeping with other people, a decision driven not by preference alone, but by financial survival in professional sport.
Gold Coast boxer Shannon Philp, 26, revealed that she does not earn enough from boxing to sustain her career, forcing her to turn to a different stream of income — OnlyFans. The middleweight fighter, who is still struggling to establish herself professionally, said the controversial platform has become the only way to fund her dreams in the ring.
In a candid interview with the Daily Mail, Philp disclosed that she and her boyfriend, Lyndon, are in an ethical non-monogamy (ENM) relationship that allows both of them to have intimate relationships with other partners regardless of gender. According to her, the decision came after extensive conversations.
“I sat down with my partner, and we talked about it at length. If you said to me a few years ago I’d be uploading (explicit) content for subscribers, I would have laughed,” she said.
Philp emphasized that female boxers often struggle financially, saying success in the sport is nearly impossible without supplementary income.
“The reality is, if we (female boxers) don’t have a regular source of income, we can’t go to the next level. When you factor in training camps, coaching, travel, and medicals, it all adds up.”
Philp added: “It is new for both of us, we enjoy it.”
Today, OnlyFans has dramatically changed her financial state. The young boxer now earns $45,000 per month from the site and sees no reason to stop. She explained that the earnings have given her freedom and goals she once struggled to imagine.
Philp continued:
“I have goals, like buying a house and property. My friends and family are supportive of what I do... having subscribers gives me a flexible lifestyle.”
On the type of content she posts, she added:
“Be it bikini shots or solo videos… it is up to the creator. I have an open mind. There are also other (female) boxers doing OnlyFans. It is a respected industry.”
Despite the attention around her unconventional income source, Philp remains determined to succeed in boxing. She currently has two professional fights, losing both, but is focused on growth and improvement.
“It all started as a side hustle, and is now a full-time gig. To go from earning $20 as an apprentice hairdresser to meeting our financial goals is satisfying... the aim now is to keep training hard to improve as a boxer,” she said.
