DHQ Appeals for National Patience Amid Insecurity, Assures Nigerians of Imminent Results from US Military Collaboration as Easter Security Measures Intensify Nationwide
…Gives Reasons Why Nigerians Are Yet To See Effect Of American Forces
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has called on Nigerians to remain patient and supportive as the nation continues to confront persistent security challenges, even as collaboration with foreign partners deepens.
Addressing journalists during the military’s end-of-month briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, acknowledged public concerns over insecurity but urged citizens not to lose confidence in ongoing military efforts.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s growing partnership with the United States military is strategic and will, in due course, begin to yield visible and impactful results across affected regions.
Despite the current security situation, Onoja described US support as “significant,” particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing and specialised training, which he noted are critical to modern counter-terrorism operations.
Providing further clarity, the Defence spokesman explained that military engagements of this nature require time before measurable outcomes can be seen. He stressed that the presence of American personnel in Nigeria is strictly advisory, with no involvement in direct combat operations.
“You may not see the impact immediately. There is always a gestation period in military engagements, but in the coming weeks and months, the difference will be clear,” he said.
It will be recalled that the DHQ had earlier confirmed the deployment of approximately 100 United States military personnel, alongside equipment, to the Bauchi Airfield on February 16, 2026. The deployment is aimed at providing technical support to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations, reinforcing the country’s capacity to tackle evolving security threats.
Meanwhile, as the Easter season approaches, the Defence Headquarters has announced a heightened state of alert across the country to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Major General Onoja disclosed that troops have been strategically placed on high alert nationwide to prevent any potential security breaches during the festive period. He noted that similar proactive measures implemented during previous celebrations have recorded significant success in deterring attacks.
He further warned that security agencies remain vigilant, as criminal elements often attempt to exploit festive periods when citizens are more relaxed and security may appear less rigid.
“We understand the tactics of these threats. They expect a relaxed atmosphere during celebrations, but we are fully prepared and will not relent,” he added.
The DHQ reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging continued cooperation from the public as security forces intensify efforts to restore lasting peace and stability across the country.
