The Abia State Government has announced plans to keep residents informed on the progress of its strategic partnership with MTN Nigeria aimed at achieving complete voice and data network coverage across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Okey Kanu revealed that the first phase of the ambitious connectivity project, which is designed to deliver 100 percent network coverage, is expected to be completed within the next eight to ten weeks.
He explained that the initiative is part of the state government’s commitment to strengthening digital access and ensuring that residents across Abia benefit from improved telecommunications infrastructure.
The Commissioner noted that upon completion, the project will bring significant improvements in social and financial inclusion, expand access to healthcare and education services, and enhance security operations across the state.
With the successful implementation of the project, residents in rural and hard-to-reach communities across Abia State will have access to reliable MTN broadband services, ensuring that no community is left behind in the state’s digital transformation drive.
The partnership reflects the administration’s broader vision of building a connected, innovative, and economically empowered Abia through technology-driven d
