ASTOPU Concludes Successful Three-Day Continuous Voter Registration Exercise in Umuahia
The Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Umuahia Zone, has successfully concluded a three-day Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise aimed at encouraging tricycle operators to participate actively in the democratic process ahead of future elections.
The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, and ended on Thursday, June 25, 2026, was held at the Umuahia North Local Government Headquarters. It attracted a large turnout of tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke riders, from various Local Government Areas within the Umuahia Zone and across the state capital.
The initiative underscored ASTOPU’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility among its members by ensuring that eligible operators registered to vote or updated their voter information in line with the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
Speaking at the conclusion of the exercise, the Zonal Chairman of ASTOPU, Hon. Chinweotito Godson Appolos, commended the tricycle operators for their impressive turnout, discipline and enthusiasm throughout the three-day exercise. He noted that their participation reflected a growing awareness of the importance of exercising their civic rights and contributing meaningfully to the democratic process.
Hon. Appolos also appreciated the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their professionalism, dedication and orderly conduct throughout the registration exercise, which ensured a smooth and hitch-free process for all participants.
The successful completion of the exercise is widely seen as a significant step towards increasing voter participation among members of the transport union and strengthening grassroots involvement in Nigeria’s democratic
process.
