Abia State, Aba South Conclude Free Eye Care Outreach as Hundreds Benefit from Lifesaving Services
Hundreds of residents turned out in Aba South on Thursday, June 11, 2026, as the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau (AEHMB) in partnership with Aba South Local Government Area successfully concluded a Free Eye Outreach Programme aimed at expanding access to essential eye care services.
The medical outreach, held at the Aba South Local Government Headquarters, began early at about 9:00 a.m. and quickly drew large crowds of beneficiaries seeking free medical attention. The initiative provided a range of services including eye screening, distribution of free medications, and other basic eye care interventions, all delivered at no cost to participants.
The programme was designed to strengthen community health outcomes by promoting early detection and treatment of vision-related conditions, while also encouraging a healthier and more productive population across the local government area.
The Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, described the outreach as a significant step in expanding healthcare access at the grassroots. He commended the partnership with the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau and praised residents for turning out in large numbers to take advantage of the services.
He further lauded the administration of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chiom Otti, OFR, for what he described as consistent efforts in strengthening healthcare delivery and driving infrastructural development across the state.
The Mayor also urged residents to actively participate in civic responsibilities by obtaining their voter cards, stressing that sustained engagement in the electoral process remains vital to consolidating good governance and ongoing development in Abia State.
Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed deep appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and transformative. Many noted that the programme provided relief for long-standing vision challenges they had been unable to address due to financial constraints, with several individuals reporting immediate improvement after receiving treatment and medication.
Both the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau and the Aba South Local Government Area reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration on public health initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents and expanding access to essential medical services across
the state.
