The Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ABIA SUBEB) has officially debunked a fake circular circulating on social media regarding payments and allowances for newly recruited teachers in the state.

In an official statement signed by the Board Secretary, Dr. Uzoamaka Amah-Mbah, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, the Board described the information in the viral document as “inaccurate and misleading,” urging the public and education stakeholders to disregard it.

The Board, however, used the opportunity to issue a genuine update regarding salary commencement and training allowances for newly employed teachers under its authority.

According to the circular, the payment of the previously indicated training allowance has been suspended indefinitely due to “overriding financial constraints”. Dr. Amah-Mbah expressed regret over the development, noting that the decision was reached after a comprehensive review of the state’s fiscal framework and available resources.

In addition, the circular revealed a revised salary commencement timeline, stating that newly recruited teachers will now begin receiving their salaries after a five-month period from their date of resumption. The Board emphasized that the decision, though difficult, is aimed at ensuring the “long-term sustainability of the school workforce” and aligning with the state’s integrated financial plan.

“The Board fully recognizes the significant hardship this revision may impose and appeals for your utmost understanding and patience during this challenging period,” the statement read.

ABIA SUBEB commended the newly recruited teachers for their dedication and urged them to view the situation as a temporary sacrifice in their service to the future of Abia State.

Dr. Amah-Mbah concluded by assuring that the Board values the teachers’ commitment and will continue to prioritize the development of the basic education sector in the state.
