Aloy Ejimakor, Sowore, and Nnamdi Kanu’s Brother Regain Freedom from Kuje Prison After Meeting Bail Conditions

In a dramatic turn of events, Special Counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, alongside activist politician and Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, have regained their freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre after fulfilling their bail requirements.

Also released were Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and several other activists arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja. Their release followed a bail granted last Friday by a Magistrate Court in Kuje Area Council, Abuja.

The arrests stemmed from a peaceful demonstration calling for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore, who led the protest, was apprehended by the Nigeria Police Force when he arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja during one of Kanu’s hearings.

On Monday morning, a video published by Sahara Reporters showed Sowore, Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel, and other freed detainees exiting the prison premises with their personal belongings, chanting solidarity songs as supporters cheered from outside the gates.

However, moments after their release, Ejimakor reportedly collapsed and was rushed to the Kuje Prison clinic for urgent medical attention. Sources close to the legal practitioner confirmed that he had been under immense physical and emotional strain since his arrest.

Their freedom marks a temporary relief in the ongoing agitation for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, whose prolonged detention continues to attract widespread attention and renewed activism from pro-democracy and human rights advocates across the country.
