The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially suspended the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit across the country following a court order halting the exercise.

Confirming the development, the Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, made the disclosure during a live interview on AIT on Wednesday.

Adeh revealed that the suspension became effective immediately after the police formally received the court directive.

“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” Adeh said.

According to her, the police authorities have complied fully with the directive and will maintain the suspension until the court delivers its final ruling on the matter.

“We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” she added.

While responding to public curiosity about the purpose and rationale behind the tinted glass policy, the police spokesperson emphasized that the regulation was primarily a security measure and not a revenue-generating initiative.

“The law was not made by us. We are enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she explained.

Adeh also dismissed speculations that the policy was introduced to extort or generate income for the police, clarifying that all financial transactions related to tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), and not handled by the police.

“Payments related to tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s TSA, not to the police,” she reaffirmed.

The suspension of the tinted glass enforcement is expected to remain in effect until the judiciary concludes the ongoing legal process, as the Nigeria Police continues to emphasize adherence to the rule of law and respect for judicial authority.
