GOV. ALEX OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: Gov. Alex Otti Reaffirms Commitment to Transform Education in Abia as Over 5,000 Teachers Resume, 4,000 More to Be Recruited as Schools Undergo Smart Upgrade

In a bold move to overhaul the education sector in Abia State, Governor Alex Otti has disclosed that over 5,000 newly recruited teachers have already resumed duties across various schools in the state, while plans are underway to employ an additional 4,000 teachers to meet the growing demand for quality education.

Governor Otti made this revelation on Thursday during the October edition of the Monthly Media Parley tagged “Governor Alex Otti Speaks”, where he highlighted his administration’s unwavering commitment to transforming education in Abia into a model for academic excellence and digital innovation.

According to the Governor, the newly employed teachers have been strategically posted to schools across the 17 local government areas, and the state government is already upgrading several institutions into smart learning centres equipped with digital tools to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. He further noted that teachers are undergoing rigorous digital training to strengthen their capacity and improve classroom performance in line with global best practices.

Governor Otti emphasized that the welfare of students and teachers remains a top priority, assuring that his administration would not compromise on safety and structural integrity in schools. He warned that any school building that fails an integrity test would be demolished immediately to safeguard pupils and ensure conducive learning environments across communities.

Reaffirming his vision for a modern, technology-driven education system, Governor Otti stated:

“When school resumed last month, our new teachers were posted. Interestingly, the way schools absorbed the 5,395 teachers shows that more are still needed. One of the schools I visited last week said although the new teachers have resumed, they are still short of teachers. 

“Enrollment has increased, we are short of 9,000 teachers in the first instance. We have started the process of hiring 4,000 more.

“Our Smart Schools continue to move in the right direction and many are being retrofitted. The report I got is that our people are very interested, and we want them ready by the time the schools are ready. We will not stop until our schools are safe and conducive for our children.”

The Governor’s statement underscores a new dawn for education in Abia State, one that prioritizes digital learning, teacher empowerment, and infrastructural integrity to equip the next generation of Abians with the skills to compete globally.
