GOV. ALEX OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: Governor Alex Otti Unveils Bold “Waste-to-Wealth” Initiative, Plans to Turn Abia’s Waste into Power, Revive Industries, and Boost Key Sectors

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has announced an ambitious plan to transform the state’s waste management system into a sustainable energy-generating and industrial revitalization program, while also driving massive development across education, health, and infrastructure sectors.

Governor Otti made this revelation on Thursday during the October edition of the Monthly Media Parley tagged “Governor Alex Otti Speaks”, where he emphasized that Abia State is shifting “from waste evacuation to recycling and power generation” under a comprehensive waste-to-wealth initiative designed to promote environmental sustainability, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s economy.

According to the Governor, feasibility studies have been concluded, and talks are ongoing with investors who have shown strong interest in converting waste into methane gas and electricity, using advanced technological models already proven in Europe and other developed economies.

Governor Otti explained that this innovative step aligns with his administration’s long-term vision to build an economically resilient and environmentally responsible Abia, capable of leveraging modern technology to solve age-old challenges.

He also noted that the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has continued to make significant progress in maintaining a clean environment across major cities such as Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia, as well as other Local Government Areas.

Commending the dedication and results achieved by ASEPA since the state declared a state of emergency on waste management, the Governor expressed satisfaction with the agency’s performance and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to take waste management to the next phase.

“In Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia areas, in the last few months when we declared an emergency on waste management, our people have signed on. We are now moving into the next stage of waste management and that is recycling, turning waste into wealth.

“We started engaging with potential partners and we also have strong collaborations with some institutions to ensure that work is going on in Abia State. In no distant time, waste will be turned into wealth in the state,” he stated.

Governor Otti added that the waste-to-energy project will not only enhance environmental sanitation but also generate electricity, stimulate industrial growth, and create employment opportunities for thousands of Abians.

He reiterated that his administration remains steadfast in reviving ailing industries, expanding educational and health infrastructure, and ensuring that development reaches every corner of the state, reaffirming that Abia is on the path to sustainable transformation and inclusive progress.
