Hon. Nnadozie Nwogwugwu Approves Solar-powered CCTV Installation for Nkwo-Okpu Market as ASMATA Traders Seek Enhanced Security
The Executive Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Hon. Nnadozie Nwogwugwu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving market infrastructure, security, and economic activities across the council area following a strategic engagement with the leadership of the Abia State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Isiala Ngwa South Chapter, and market leaders from various markets within the local government.
The meeting, which took place at the Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Council Headquarters in Omoba, provided a platform for direct interaction between the council chairman and representatives of the trading community, who used the opportunity to present pressing issues affecting their markets and propose measures aimed at enhancing market operations and business growth.
During the engagement, the market leaders highlighted several challenges confronting traders across the council area, with particular emphasis on the security situation at Nkwo-Okpu Market. They appealed to the Executive Chairman to strengthen security within the market through the installation of solar-powered Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance cameras to safeguard traders, customers, and valuable property.
The traders also expressed appreciation for the leadership style of Hon. Nnadozie Nwogwugwu, describing him as accessible, responsive, and deeply committed to the welfare of traders and the development of markets in Isiala Ngwa South. They noted that his administration has consistently demonstrated genuine concern for the needs of the people and expressed confidence in his ability to address the challenges affecting various markets across the local government.
Responding to the concerns raised, Hon. Nwogwugwu thanked the delegation for the visit and commended the market leadership for maintaining peace, discipline, and orderliness within their respective markets. He assured them that his administration remains dedicated to addressing issues affecting traders while creating a conducive environment for commerce and economic prosperity.
In a major development, the Executive Chairman approved the request for solar-powered CCTV surveillance cameras at Nkwo-Okpu Market and announced that the equipment would be delivered and installed before the end of next week. He emphasized that security remains a critical pillar of his administration’s development agenda, stressing that economic growth can only flourish in an environment where lives and property are adequately protected.
Beyond market security, Hon. Nwogwugwu used the occasion to encourage traders and market leaders to mobilize their members to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He described voter registration as an important civic responsibility that enables citizens to contribute meaningfully to the democratic process and play a role in shaping the future of society.
The council chairman further urged the traders to continue supporting government policies and programmes while sustaining their partnership with the local government in advancing economic development across Isiala Ngwa South. He also called on them to remain steadfast in their support for the transformational agenda of the Abia State Government under the leadership of the State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, whose people-oriented reforms continue to drive development and progress across the state.
