Labour Party Debunks Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Governor Alex Otti’s Commitment to Party and Abia Development Agenda
The Abia State Chapter of the Labour Party has dismissed as false and misleading reports alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) postponed its congress due to a purported arrangement involving Governor Alex Chioma Otti to join the party.
In a press statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chidiebere Okoro, the party described the claims as entirely baseless and without merit. The statement clarified that Governor Otti remains a committed and bona fide member of the Labour Party, the platform under which he was elected and through which he continues to serve the people of Abia State.
According to the party, there has been no concluded arrangement or negotiation for the governor to defect to any other political party. It emphasized that the governor’s political allegiance remains unchanged and firmly rooted in the Labour Party.
The party further noted that since assuming office, Governor Otti has remained focused on delivering purposeful governance anchored on transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. It highlighted that under his leadership, Abia State has recorded measurable progress in key sectors such as infrastructure renewal, healthcare reform, education, and economic empowerment.
Ongoing projects across the state, the statement added, are aimed at improving citizens’ welfare, expanding opportunities for youth and women, and strengthening the economic foundation of the state. These initiatives, it said, are already yielding positive results.
The Labour Party expressed concern that the circulation of unfounded rumours at a time when the administration is consolidating developmental gains is regrettable and distracting. It warned that the spread of unverified information risks misleading the public and diverting attention from the serious business of governance.
Reaffirming the governor’s dedication to his mandate, the party stressed that Governor Otti remains steadfast in his commitment to delivering tangible results for Abians and ensuring that government policies and programmes continue without disruption or needless speculation.
The party called on media practitioners, political stakeholders, and the general public to verify information through credible and official sources before dissemination. It urged all stakeholders to maintain focus on sustaining progress, strengthening institutions, and improving the quality of life for the people of Abia State.
The statement concluded by affirming that the Labour Party in Abia State remains united and resolute in its mission to provide responsible, people-centered leadership.
